What crosses your mind when you think of being retired?
You might think of living a calm, quiet, and peaceful life in a gentle suburbia, or in a retirement community where everything is slow-paced and calm for the rest of your days.
But if you’re someone who would want something a little more exciting – and let’s face it, most of us probably do! – then there’s the perfect place for you.
It’s a retirement community full of good vibes, soaking up the sun, and sipping margaritas as you enjoy some delicious sponge cake. Sounds awesome, doesn’t it?
This community is far from just an imaginary fantasy, though it sounds almost too good to be true! The fact is that it’s real and in development right now as we speak!
It’s called Latitude Margaritaville, and it’s a project by Jimmy Buffett in partnership with Minto Communities.
The project is located in Florida, and the aim is to build a community for those aged 55 or older – or, as Buffett says, “55 or better” – who are seeking to live their very best lives!
If you don’t know who Buffett is, he’s a singer, musician, actor, and author – as well as a businessman, of course!
One of his most famous songs is titled Margaritaville, which is where his project earned its name.
Buffett imagines the community to be a happy place, and the kind that ignites the spirit of adventure within someone’s heart and being.
The community’s website describes the place as a paradise that you can come home to – which is certainly an enticing idea!
Although much of the community is still in development, one of them, which is situated in Daytona Beach, opened over the summer.
Future plans include locations to be opened in Watersound, Hilton Head, and South Carolina, and they’re expected to be completed and ready for opening in the very near future!
The design and structure of these communities are heavily inspired by Buffett’s own lifestyle.
They’re packed full with spas, pools, live entertainment, and all sorts of exciting forms of recreational activities.
There’s an amazing nightlife as well as plenty of incredible access to the beachfront for residents.
All residents are promised a great, fun time, and that it’ll be the perfect place for them to grow older – but without needing to grow up! It’s certainly an idea that’s hard to turn down.
Naturally, this isn’t a property investment that will be inexpensive. The project aims to complete an impressive 7,000 homes in total, which will cost a whopping one billion dollars.
Available homes will include two and three-bedroom houses that will be either furnished or unfurnished.
They’re expected to cost between US$200,000 and US$350,000, which is certainly a hefty price to pay.
But these costs aren’t deterring potential residents!
Within just the first two weeks of the open period to accept offers, more than 10,000 people registered to be a part of the community, according to Bill Bullock, the Minto Communities vice president.
