adorable christmas commercial

It is once again that time of the year – Christmastime! The season of winter, of joy, and that time of the year where you are expected to spend some quality time with both your nuclear and your extended family.

Alas, blood family can be difficult to handle for a lot of people, due to a variety of circumstances and reasons. This often makes this time of the year hard to handle for plenty of people.

But you don’t have to fret if your related family isn’t the greatest – celebrate this season with your found family instead!

The theme of family during this season is so strong, you would be hard-pressed to find an ad that doesn’t feature it in some way or another.

Yes, ads are still all around us, even if we don’t notice them the traditional way via the likes of television anymore.

The easy assumption is that ads have basically vanished, thanks to the like of ad blockers and such.

In reality, they have just evolved a little to keep up with the times, where integration of the internet into our everyday lives has fundamentally changed the way we consume media.

Some things are relatively universal however, and it is upon one of these universal themes that Bouygues based its Christmas ad on.

For Christmas, French telecommunications company Bouygues decided to make an ad that told the heartwarming story of a boy and his life story.

It depicts how the boy reacts to his father’s silly antics and dancing as he grows up, starting with being enthralled and entertained.

Then, as the boy ages and enters puberty, he gets less amused by his dad’s actions. A key point then occurs in his teenagehood where he is withdrawn and sullen while his dad dances to a ringtone on his phone.

It is only when the titular boy becomes an adult with his own child does he appreciate and feel nostalgia over his dad’s attempts at making the holiday season lighter.

It seems like the ad managed to hit all the right heartstrings, as the video quickly went viral on YouTube shortly after its release this month.

Considering that this is the time of the year where we focus and think about family, this is perfectly understandable. In fact, the relatability of this ad has probably made more than one person cry!

It is a pretty smart advertising move as well, since playing to the human emotion makes ads even more memorable than usual.

It is great that companies make ads that focus on family and love around this time of the year, and fill the season with heartwarming joy and celebration.

It certainly adds to the ambience of Christmas, and reminds us all to truly appreciate and be grateful what we already have within our grasp.

If only companies would give themselves the permission to be more emotional throughout the year, and create more ads like these that will stay in our hearts and minds!

Now that would be a highly successful ad campaign.
