Getting a manicure is a great way to pamper yourself. If you like having your nails done by a professional while you sit back and relax, it’s a great way to unwind, treat yourself, and feel great after.
Unfortunately, not all services are accommodating towards their customers.
Angela Peters headed out one day to visit a nail salon in Burton, Michigan and was refused service.
The 36-year-old woman has cerebral palsy, so she uses a wheelchair and often has hand tremors.
The salon informed her that it would be too hard to paint her nails and turned her away.
Later that day, Peters took a trip to Walmart, where she is a regular customer.
While there, she spoke to Ebony Harris, a 40-year-old staff member who has helped her with her shopping a few times and recognizes her.
Peters mentioned what had happened and how dejected she felt, and Harris knew she had to help.
She didn’t want Peters’ day to be ruined!
So Harris decided to forgo her usual break time and instead used it to paint Peters’ nails.
They chose a nice glittery blue polish and sat down at a Subway to get the job done.
Peters kept apologizing for her hands shaking, and Harris revealed she was shaking too, nervous about messing up Peters’ manicure!
That’s when Tasia Smith, an employee at Subway, took a picture of the scene and posted it on Facebook.
She wanted to bring awareness to how unfairly Peters was treated and also bring light to Harris’ wonderful actions.
Soon, Harris was receiving all sorts of applause over the social media platform, and Walmart caught wind of it too.
Walmart stated that they’re not surprised that Harris went the extra mile for Peters, saying that she has always been the kind of person who goes out of her way to make others feel important and special.
Her compassion and spirit are certainly ones that made the company proud!
Meanwhile, Peters said that she’s not at all bitter towards the salon that wouldn’t serve her, saying that she forgives them completely.
She says that she only wants to bring awareness to the fact that those with disabilities should be treated the same way anyone would want to be treated.
She doesn’t want to see anyone fired for what happened and only wants to educate, and that harboring bitterness does no good.
She also said that she wants other to see the positives – that there are wonderful people in the world like Harris.
Harris has also echoed Peters’ statements, saying she would not want the business to lose customers or be made to look bad.
Instead, she wants to educate others so they know that everyone – no matter their race, size, disability, or anything else – are people who deserve to be treated as such.
She adds that Peters isn’t much different from herself or anyone else – she’s a girly girl who likes looking pretty, and there’s no reason she shouldn’t be allowed to.
This wonderful message reminds to be kind to others and treat them as we would like to be treated, because deep down, we’re all human!
