It’s common for family members to be left to the task of writing an obituary when another family member passes away.
But the obituary published in the Redwood Falls Gazette in Minnesota for 80-year-old Kathleen Dehmlow last spring raised more than a few eyebrows.
And now it’s become a subject of discussion by people worldwide for its brutal honesty.
Dehmlow’s obituary contains the usual information, such as her date of birth, March 19, 1938, naming Springfield, Minnesota as her birthplace, noting her marriage to Dennis Dehmlow, and even offering the first names of her parents, Joseph and Gertrude.
But the obituary her family wrote is not the typical sentimental farewell to the deceased.
The obituary clearly states that Dehmlow abandoned her two children, named Jay and Gina, leaving them to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jospeph Schunk, to raise.
It seems very obvious to anyone reading this unusual obituary that her children never forgave her for abandoning them and they continue to hold onto plenty of anger and resentment at her actions.
But what is most surprising is the brutal candor expressed in the last two lines of Kathleen Dehmlow’s obituary.
The comments state outright that neither Jay nor Gina will miss their absent and uncaring mother.
The obituary ends with the shocking comment that they believe the world will actually be much better place without Kathleen Dehmlow in it.
