Cardiovascular and blood circulatory diseases are perhaps the number one global cause of deaths in this day and age.
In 2015 alone about 31% of deaths stemmed from coronary heart diseases and stroke. The U.S. alone has an average of 610,000 deaths caused by heart disease.
The number of people affected by cardiovascular diseases has only continued to increase since, with already 25% of the population relying on statin medication and many more forced to stick to a low-fat diet.
In response to this, Dr. Dwight Lundell aims to share his findings as a heart surgeon with 25 years of experience.
In 2012, Dr. Lundell shared his newfound understanding in an article that was published in Prevent Disease.
He says, “We physicians with all our training, knowledge and authority often acquire a rather large ego that tends to make it difficult to admit we are wrong. So, here it is. I freely admit to being wrong. As a heart surgeon with 25 years experience, having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries, today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific fact.”
He explains that a healthy lifestyle that includes the consumption of natural, whole, and unprocessed foods is what prevents and reverses the effects of various diseases.
These diseases include the likes of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease.
He has since quit his practice to dedicate his career to preventing cardiovascular diseases.
Dr. Lundell has claimed in his new book that the true cause of such heart diseases is not fat and cholesterol, as it is widely believed, but rather inflammation.
He states that “chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial,” due to how inflammation is part of the body’s essential healing system.
The type of inflammation that causes diseases is the chronic kind, which is caused by constant, daily input of toxins that damages our blood vessels.
In the long run, this causes cardiovascular and blood circulatory diseases
What is important to note that the advised low-fat diet and recommendations outlined by healthcare systems and governments are, according to Dr. Lundell, making the problem worse.
In fact, he claims that this low-fat diet that is recommended by mainstream medicinal practices is the cause of these diseases.
In these diets, the patient will normally consume far too many foods rich in omega-6, such as vegetable oils.
This is in addition to the large quantities of flour and sugar already found in both conventional and organic premade foods available on store shelves.
A glance at the ingredients list will oftentimes reveal that 80% of the time it will include vegetable oils in some form.
This is a huge problem, as these oils are highly concentrated sources of fat.
Due to its commonness in premade foods, this oil intake adds up very quickly, which increases the amount of omega-6 in the body.
Which necessary for cell membranes, this fatty acid must be consumed in balance with omega-3, a fatty acid that most of the population already lacks.
When our omega-6 intake in relation to our omega-3 intake is imbalanced, cells produce chemicals called cytokines that cause inflammation.
Over time, this inflammation will damage our blood circulatory system and the cardiovascular system.
As a result, it is important to ensure our diets are unprocessed and well balanced to prevent and even reverse such related diseases.
In short, to keep your heart running in optimum condition, remember the following:
- Pick the right oils and fats for your daily consumption. You can opt for coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil or hemp oil for cooking.
- Take your Omega-3 religiously.
- Remember to check and optimize your insulin levels so that they’re below 3.
- Exercise daily for 30 minutes at the very least.
- Create healthy outlets for stress and depression. Do something creative to combat depression and stress instead of falling for unhealthy outlets like binge-eating.
- Make sure you’re not Vitamin-D deficient.
- Add turmeric to your diet. Turmeric is a natural antioxidant and its anti-inflammatory properties will help your organs stay healthy.
